Reply:Periwinkle is a light color true and with that said you should pair it with something that will make it stand out. Not something that is all pastel and the same old "spring colors". Do something outstanding. Try a really dark lavendar, Silver, Dark Magenta or even a really dark blue.

I'm not talking about just crab legs, lobsters, or oysters. Every seafood restaurant got those. I'm looking for fried clam bellies (not clam strips), scallops, good fish and chips, crab cakes, lobster rolls, periwinkles,quohogs and cherrystones. I've been away from Boston for 6 months now and needing to get my seafood fix.

Can anybody tell me where I can get some new england seafood here in Dallas?

I haven't been home (Gloucester) in a year and it totally bums me out in the seafood dept.

Florida has good shrimp, that's about it.

I've heard that Woodman's in Essex ships clams out, you might check with them.

Reply:I've been in Dallas for 3 years now and I can tell you there are no seafood restaurants here which even approach those back home in Boston. If you don't mind bouncing around you can track down some acceptable fare. Daddy Jacks chowder house on Greenville has pretty good fish and chips as does the Old Monk (knox/henderson). I've yet to find any place that sells steamers. Trulucks on McKinney for crabs. Pappadeaux has crazy good deals on oyster plates. Although they are small, Local in deep ellum makes crab cakes the right way (tons of crab). Scallops are a tough one. I like the sweet taste of small Nantucket bay scallops. Most of the scallops I've had in Dallas are the larger sea variety so... Finally there are absolutely no restaurants in Dallas which serve a decent chowder so stop trying.

What color to do?

We are currently in a kitchen remodel. We have decided on black granite counters, pine floors, and golden oak cabinets. Now I'm not sure what color to do the walls! I've been thinking about a light lavender or periwinkle. I'm just not sure. I also plan on having wrought iron accessories and detailing. And suggestions?

What color to do?
Color is a very personal choice dependent on the mood you want to create. Check out HGTV for some great color advice. Just going on the description you gave, I would recommend a light sage.

Reply:I think either of those colors would be good. Just be careful that they are not too light, because then it could be stark against the dark countertops. I think the blue would be great.
Reply:I would think a nice medium faded green or mustard/saffron yellow would look really nice. The warm colors would complement each other very well. But for a fun, darker color , then I would suggest a pomegranate shade of red and think it would look great! Best of luck!

Reply:While I'm not a fan of either of those colors, my thought would be the periwinkle for depth of color that would stand up to the strong colors you already have.

Many places now mix 2 ounce bottles of paint so you can do a large square in your room just to try it. I would suggest getting three or four shades, since there are so many shades of every color, and try them on your walls. It may look like patchwork, but you'll be painting over them and this way you can actually see what that "great color" you love on the chip actually looks like against the rest of the kitchen. It's a fact that most paints never actually look like the chip, so why take the chance. And after living with them a week or two, you'll know which ones you really like.

A few dollars up front for samples can save you disappointment and money in the long run.

Reply:They sound fine. However I would stay with a colour complimentary to your golden oak cabinets, so as not to shut down the room. By that I mean the more colours you put in a room, the smaller the room tends to look. One or two colours all over and one or two 'bright' pieces, by way of table cloth, curtains or painting would look great! Good luck!!

Ive seen one kitchen very similar to yours and they used this color. it was fabulous. this would work well with wrought iron accessories.striking accessories need a strong backgound. whatever you decide, and it's almost always a coin flip, you can always change it, if you hate it. hope you have fun.
Reply:Me personally I would make it look Tuscany with a golden rod color possible an antique finish. Then decorate with wine pictures, grape vines, etc.

Wear what flatters you and makes you feel good. My mom and MIL kept asking me during the planning process what I wanted them to wear. While I was pretty anal about most of the wedding details, I honestly did not care. Plus I didn't think it was my place to tell them what to wear. I know it was a big day for both of them and I wanted them to be comfortable and happy.

But don't wear something that stands out, the other guy who said that is totally wrong. MOB is meant to blend in, not stand out, she is not a bride nor a bridesmaid. If MOB tries to stand out too much it will look like she is trying to get attention from the bride and bridesmaids and this won't go down well with both the bride and other guests and believe me, people do notice if the MOB is trying to upstage the bride.

I am trying to decide what to do about the flowers for my wedding, which is in mid-May. The color scheme is blue and white (bridesmaids in periwinkle) and the theme is Israeli Jewish (we're thinking of the tables being city names instead of numbered). I was wondering, do you think a single white rose (or some other flower) tied with a ribbon and some babysbreath would be an elegant choice for the bridesmaids?

We had the bridesmaids carry up single roses...and put the meaning of the roses in the order of service.

One carried a Red rose for love and respect

one carried a yellow rose for friendship and joy

one carried a pink rose for romance

one carried a white rose for purity and reverance

All the things that we wanted to bring to our marriage...my bouquet contained all the colours.

Often people don't remember the flowers at the wedding...but 10 years latter people are still commenting on how nice it was to have flowers with meaning at our ceremony.

What is appropriate dress for mother of the groom?

My son is getting married in April, and I want to look good, but I've packed on several pounds since my last "public appearance" (I am a tall size 20). I have a tea-length dress that is "acceptable" (in burgundy with gold), but my friends tell me I look too frumpy in it. The bridesmaids are wearing Aqua colored dresses. I just found a beautiful dress in a periwinkle blue, with a full length A-line skirt, embellished with embroidered roses, beading %26amp; crystals, with a matching wrap. I feel like a princess in it.

My concern is that it has more bling than the bride's gown or the bridesmaids. I am only 46 and not ready to look like my own grandmother, and I figure that I will be looking at those pictures for a long time, and I don't want my thought to be how prematurely old I look, but I also don't want to look out of place or silly.

Any advice?

I think the dress sounds nice and I personally wouldn't mind if MY MOM wore something like that to my wedding (my dress is pretty simple but beautiful) however, depending on what type of relationship I had with my future mother-in-law (mine is actually passed on) I "may" feel like she was trying to deliberately take the attention and shine it on her. If you have a good relationship with your soon to be daughter in law, show her the dress and ask her if it's okay. If you don't have a good relationship with her, error on the side of caution and go for something more played down. I understand that you'll have to look at the pictures for years to come and don't want to look like a granny, but it's not your day, it's her's and your son's, you had your day. Good luck.
Reply:You would be appropriately dressed for the mother of the groom in the periwinkle dress you described. The mothers of the bride and groom should be dressed fancier than the other guests. I wore a sage dress, tea length with a handkerchief hem and it had some beading on it as well. I was the fiance of the father of the bride. The bride even came with me when I bought the dress. His mother was in a champagne colored dress that had a beaded top, and a beaded short jacket. Nobody out-shined the bride, even though we had a little bling going on. I'm sure you will look great!

Reply:Show the dress to the bride, and ask her if she thinks it is appropriate. Some brides really care about how the moms look (especially in comparison to themselves). Others don't care much at all, so long as the moms are comfortable and happy.
Reply:Before you do anything you need to speak to the bride about what #1 her mother is wearing (its tradition that the MOB chooses her dress first and then you choose a style dress that is along the same lines. Meaning if she chooses a tea length then so do you, floor length, suit etc. and so you dont choose a clashing or the same color) and #2 what she would like to see you in.

Also, this is your sons wedding, you are an honored guest, you should get a new dress, not something you have in your closet, if you can afford one. You will be in a lot of photographs, so you want to really be comfortable in your dress and not feel so much princess-like as you do pretty in it. Reply:You can get happy-talk from teenie-girls here, but I'm just shy of your own age. So, let's be more honest. Your 'princess' days are long over. Start thinking queen, and go for a more mature appearance. Periwinkle blue is not a color for a mother of the groom (it's Cinderella's color)- and stay away from the same-color as the girlfriends of the bride. You aren't one of them, and you're no longer a young woman. Wear the darker, more formal shades of the groom (who I assume, will be wearing black). April is early spring, sure. But the mother of the groom isn't the flower in that garden, understand? Go with dark colors that look good on you, or a black dress yourself (which hides the figure, too). It will look better when you're dancing with your son. With a periwinkle blue.. you'll stand out more than you'll want, next to black tux. Picture it, all eyes in that photo go to the lighter color -- and you know your role isn't foreground, but background and a postion of class and strenght and dignity.

I couldn't actually find any information about the book all I know is the title of the book is called Paul Periwinkle, Or The Pressgang which may have been another title for the same book. Hmmm...reminds me of Flash from Spider-Man. But for a vampire, who has long dark hair and periwinkle eyes, and who isn't evil, it sounds great! Makes him sound...I'm not sure...It just seems to fit the character!

I think the hero description sounds wonderful. But the name sounds very young--superheroish to me (imho).

Just a thought, maybe use a creative and unique reference to his eye color (periwinkle = violet/purple/pale blue). This will set your character apart since it will be an uncommon name. How about...

~Vender (play off lavender)

~Helio (play off heliotrope... a bluish purple color and also a purple flower.)

Helio is kind of funny, since alone, it means "sun"... and your hero is a vampire, so he obviously can't be in the sun. (LOL!) Or can he? If so, then Helio might be a good name for a vampire that can go in the sun and has purple eyes.

Reply:maybe not Flash. Good name, but it's been used a lot. Think about it. You've got at least 2 comic book characters with that name, along with the classic and modern Flash Gordon's. Try looking up maybe Flash or the equivilent in another language. or perhaps look up "night" or "dark" in other languages. that's one way i know some authors find interesting names for their main characters.

i have been doing my make up the same way all year and i was hoping to find something new ...

right now i use great lash mascara

and that limited edition pink/periwinkle/gold chanel eyeshadow

i also use victoria secrets cherry bomb lip gloss and sometimes on days when i want to enhance my appearance i go for too-faced brand lip injection lip gloss (which works great)

but im getting bored of the same old thing

im fourteen and i am ALREADY sick of a make up i have been wearing the same for a year lol some tips plz? anyone who's really good at finding these things out...

o and does anyone have any good tips on getting a tan cuz i have fair skin....and it is almost impossible for me to get a tan

and if not naturally does anyone no some REALLY REALLY good spray on tan that wont leave streaks and will come out even?

you're relatively young so try avoiding make-up that attracts attention to them rather than your features. Make-up should be about enhancing your features as well as highlighting your self-expression.

Blue eyes look wonderful with either brown/tan eyeshadow, if you want a classic look you can wear every day. For a more intense look, try the ever sizzling come-hither look with rich smoky grey combined with sexy black.

Be careful not do overdo it though, it can look like a punch if nt done properly. e best will be to line ur eyes with black eyeliner, then put e grey colour around e eye socket, finally adding the black as close to the lash line as possible, smudging gently; add a shimmering highlight to the starting of your peeprs, then sweep a clear glitter eyeshadow, preferably liquid as it's effect is more obvious across e black eyeshadow; the result will be fantastic. finish off with 2 coats of volumnizing mascara. downplay the rest of the face by applying just a hint of blush(colour at your preference bt it has to be natural %26amp; subtle). for lips, apply lip balm, before swiping foundation over it, then applying a neutral shade of lipcolour or lipgloss over it. voila, hot chick!

OR if you're daring enough, i think you'd be awesome to carry off christina aguilera's latest 60s inspired hollywood glamour. keep eyes subtle with light brown eyeshadow. Use liquid eyeliner to line a strong line across your eyes, flicking it upwards at the ends of your eyes to achieve a fabulous cat-eye effect. Apply two coats of mascara. Apply a glowing shade of pink slightly brighter than your normal shade so that you look as if you're literally, well, blushing! finish off with a strong reddish pink colour(colour reference see chanel Allure No.8 Brilliant) since vermicelli red will make you look old and awkward. And there you have it. Completely different looks bt both bring out your lovely features and are definitely fun. enjoy.
Reply:try products meant especially for your eyes. like at almay they recomend different colors for certain eyes, so you should try that. i think you should experiment with looks you've seen or heard about. but if you've found a look that works for you and is easy for you to do, you might want to think about sticking with it. but like i said, just experiment with different colors and different amounts of makeup.

Reply:For the tan, tanning salons have a mist-on tan that you can get, my friend did it and it looked really good. As for the make-up, try some light brown/tan eyeshadows with black eyeliner, it will enhance your blue eyes. Maybe a touch of bronze blush and a dab of lip gloss maybe with a hint of pink. Also you could try the smoky eye look, black eye shadow with black eyeliner, it sounds so gothic but if you do it right it looks really pretty.

We used to fool with them as kids. They are about an inch long. They make a long skinny tubular shell from tiny rocks. Their shell looks like concrete. There is a little crab like thing that lives inside. What the heck is this creature. We always called them periwinkles, but my biologist friend thinks I'm insane. He's never heard of them. Please if anyone knows what these things are, do share.

Typically, a periwinkle more commonly referrs to a molusc that has a "snail-like" shell. However, in some regions periwinkle referrs to the larvae of a caddisfly. I think this is what you're describing.

The subaquatic larva of a caddisfly use thier own glue to bind sand, gravel and other objects on the riverbed to make thier case. Depending on the environment, this case varies in looks.

Since you've seen them and know what the creature you're looking for looks like, here's some pictures of caddisfly larvae and you can tell if it is the mystery creature or not.

Reply:We have the same thing in OR, and they are great for fishing. I've never heard them refered to as anything but periwinkles. They're fairly widespread, I was watching an animal planet show a while back and saw them on the show and they were in the Northeast states, New Hamshire I think, and they refered to them as periwinkles too. While I'm sure they have a scientific name I think you're biologist friend is either a city kid or insane themselves! (or possibly pulling your leg) I do know that they are a larvae of a type of waterbug, a fly of somesort I think, but don't remember which one right now.

It's about eight feet tall, and has grown to that height in about three months. Its stem has a pink-purple-green tint with segments like bamboo. The leaves are about a foot wide with seven sections/prongs each, and also have a purple tint, though not as distinct as the stem. The berries are the most unique. They're clustered in spear shapes. The individual berries are spikey and a dark periwinkle color, with one spot that's magenta or hot pink. Any ideas?

Reply:Go to Dave's Garden online and check out any of the various plants known as "voodoo lilies" I have one of these myself and although I've never seen a flower or berries on mine, perhaps one day I will. The description you gave sounds otherwise suspiciously similar!

Reply:I would say no, don't go for the periwinkle. When i got married my bridesmaid wore red and my mom wore a taupe dress and jacket with a shimmery knit to it. It was lovely, she had a glow about her but she didn't outshine anyone.

Reply:Check with the bride first! My bridesmaid dresses were also red and so beautiful! We had a July wedding. My mother-in-law knew this and still chose a seafoam green dress to wear. It really did not look good in the pictures unless it was just us and her. She really stood out... I think that was her intent though. It was a beautiful dress, it just didn't work w/ the rest of the wedding party. You are part of the wedding party!

Have you considered red? My mother ended up with a red dress that looked amazing on her. It was a different style and material so it worked out fine. She did ask my opinion before she bought the dress which I truly appreciated!

Please keep in mind that wedding photos are cherished a lifetime and you do not want to cause any ill will.

Periwinkles are a rarity in this country and are troublesome to eat, because they are so hard to get out of the shell. Cook them, oh, so briefly, because an overdone periwinkle will break apart when you try to get it out of its shell, causing untold frustration. Love honey

Do you cook Periwinkles before you eat them or eat them raw and alive?
wash the periwinkles in a colander under cold water as soon as you get them home, checking to see that their little doors are securely shut (a sign that they're still alive). Smell any that don't give evidence of being alive and toss them out unless they smell like the clean, briny sea. Cook them, oh, so briefly, because an overdone periwinkle will break apart when you try to get it out of its shell, causing untold frustration. Three minutes is the limit on cooking,the easiest method is to pop them in a pot of boiling water, spiced with a little cayenne pepper.

If you want to be fancy,poach them in a wide sauté pan in a little court bouillon, where the liquid comes only halfway up the shells of the beasts, spoon them into hot bowls, swirl a fair amount of butter into the court bouillion and pour it over the periwinkles. Serve with crusty bread, and be sure to pull off the operculum — the little doors — before you eat the periwinkles. 2 qt Water

1/2 c Carrots, chopped

1/2 c Celery, chopped

1 sm Onion -- chopped

1/4 c Parsley, chopped

1 Bay leaf

1 tb Fresh thyme, chopped

1 tb Fresh basil, chopped

2 Garlic cloves

10 Black peppercorns

1 t Salt

1/4 c White wine vinegar

1/4 c White wine

In a large saucepan place all of the ingredients.

Bring the liquid to a boil and then simmer it for 30

minutes. Let it cool.Court

bouillon is used mainly for cooking fish and

shellfish. Foods that are cooked in the liquid will

absorb the flavor of the ingredients in the bouillon

Make a tomato sauce, and get your pasta water going. 5 minutes before service throw your periwinkles in and let there flavor permeate the sauce, serve the pasta. and bring out the periwinkles and prepare to share some good times with your family and friends.

We used to do this every year when I was a kid in Sound Island CT, on the Long Island sound, we'd harvest our periwinkles and go to another family that had a campground and sit by the fire for hours picking the little guys out of there shells with toothpicks. Ah good times!

Reply:Okay, set your hair in large rollers to achieve a large soft hair. Tease up the crown of your head so you have lots of volume on top. Pull hair back (but leave part on the side, similar to the model's hair). Set in a medium ponytail. You can leave ponytail down and curly or you can pin it up so it's a soft, curly kind of bun. Be sure to pull a few pieces down so your hair doesn't look too 'done'. Have fun!!

I think I want a cascading bouquet with white lilies and hydrangeas. My bridesmaids dresses are periwinkle and the grooms vest and bow ties are periwinkle, my fiance's vest and tie are navy blue and my dress is just white. I think my bridesmaids flowers might just be white lilies so they will stand out from the dresses. Does anyone know of any pictures I could look at to get a better idea of what I want? The bridesmaids carrying white lilies would look lovely - but the lilies can get pricey. If you are trying to save a little money the gerbera daisies are a beautiful flower and make a lovely bridesmaid bouquet.

I think that having some lilies with roses wrapped in perwinkle would look lovely. Maybe these pictures could help. I hope it gives you some ideas

Reply:I don't think you should have your bridesmaids carry white flowers, only you should have white at your wedding! You could mix purple and blue flowers or blue and cream flowers instead and their bouquets will still stand out from their dresses.

Hey Everyone,

I'm having a beach wedding on a budget. Instead of doing a tacky cash bar or skipping alcohol altogether, we are doing kegs of beer, red wine, white wine, blush wine and a signature mixed drink to go with our theme.

I'm looking for tasty suggestions for fun beach drinks. Please do not suggest Bahama Mamas, Blue Hawaii, Pina Coladas or Strawberry Daquiries. I'd like to do something more interesting than those four standard drinks.

I'm allergic to coconut, so nothing with coconut in it. My wedding color is periwinkle, so purple/blue colored drinks would be a total bonus. Do we have any bartenders out there?

Reply:Hi, in the restaurant where I used to workwe had a frozen margarita that was blue - we called it a Blue Monday.

It is made with Tequila, Triple Sec, Sweet %26amp; Sour (margarita Mix) and Blue Curacao.

Blue Curacao %26amp; Triple Sec both are liquers that taste like orange - it is just blue for decorative purposes. So, since margaritas are lime, you end up with a "tropical" orange/lime drink.

It's a good drink that sneaks up on you - and you can get away with making it rather inexpensively. You could actually leave the triple sec out, since the blue will give the same flavor.

Also, it can be served either frozen (my fav) or on the rocks!

1. Get a tall glass (approx. 1/2 pint) and fill it half with fresh orange juice.

2. Add about 1/8 of vodka to it (this is variable depending on how drunk you want to get but remember you need to keep space in the glass for later ingredients)

3. Add a large teaspoon of sweet honey and stir vigourousely until the honey is almost completely dissolved (there will probably still be some stuck to the bottom of the glass, dont worry about this)

4. Pour in approx. 1/8 of drambuie (again this is variable but remember you need the space)

5. Carefully sprinkle a level teaspoon of sugar onto the top of the liquid and stir (make sure that the sugar doesnt stick to the honey at the bottom)

6. Add about 1/16 of lemon juice (just enough to give it a bit of a kick)

7. VERY CAREFULLY and SLOWLY add some blackcurrant cordial (or similar purple juice i.e Vimto, Ribena etc). If done properly, when left to settle for a minute, this will turn the top half of the drink purple leaving the bottom half yellow, which makes it look very cool!

Tips

* Most of the ingredients here are optional and just add a bit of a different taste to the drink.

* The alcoholic parts could be substituted with other spirits. Experiment a little and see what works best

* Make sure the drink is always served chilled, but WITHOUT ICE. I find leaving the orange juice in the fridge before use usually works

* Bear in mind, if you want to put more alcohol in it, excessive alcohol will ruin its sweet and sour taste

* The glass size does not have to be what I've said here, I just find that it works best in this type of glass, however if you want to use a pint glass this works just as well, you simply need more of the ingredients

Warnings

* Make sure you dont stir the drink after you've added the blackcurrant cordial. This ruins the effect and makes it look like a horrific car wreck of a drink

* Don't leave the alcohol lying about after you've finished if there are animals or children that can get their hands, paws, claws, hooves or stumps on it. This will be a waste of perfectly good alcohol

* Reasonably sized tall glass (about 1/2 pint works best)

I painted my room lime green with a periwinkle accent on one wall and it looked great, but I am changing rooms and I would like to have something new. The main color is a sort of aquamarine or deep turquoise, but it has a bit more green than blue. The bathroom connected to my room is going to be two shades darker than the color in my room. I want suggestions on an accent color that will make my room have that something extra. Please help!!!

i would proably wear black eye liner and were a little lighter blue than your dress. It will look elegant but not look like your caked with make up.

Reply:Gold would be beautiful, especially something sparkly. For a more sophisticated look, use a dark blue with a dark blue or black eyeliner. Can accent blue with a gray/silver. Lighter colors like gold will give you a fresh look, or dark colors for a sultry/smokey eye.

Avoid light blue shadow - it hasn't worked with light skin tones since 1985. :)

I just got engaged and we are having trouble deciding what color we want! He mostly left it up to me but I would like to make him comfortible in the color he wears too..... Reply:Those are all great colors. I personally don't think you need to choose one or two colors and make EVERYTHING match. I personally would never put a groomsman in a blue vest to match a bridesmaid in 100 years!

Your bridesmaids dresses can be one of those colors with their bouquets containing most of the others. If you look at the galleries on sites like the Knot, you'll see that a nice palette of several complimentary colors looks great for both the wedding party and reception decor!

I think the classiest looks for a groom are neutral colors (black, greys, etc) He can tie it in with his boutonniere or pocket square.
Reply:Deep colors make an evening wedding really nice. Think of a red and cream, or a dark blue and black. You also might think of what's in bloom during that season, and use the shades of the flowers you find. Dark greens always look fab too.

A friend of mine got married in 1989 in the fall- around Halloween, and the bridesmaids wore copper, with hunter green accents, and it was so pretty. She got comments from just about everyone, that the colors were so vivid. Black for the guys is the most traditional choice regardless of what the girls wear.

Reply:Paint a swatch of each and compare to the color wheel you are using. They won't all match colors on the wheel but you will see where they fit in the scheme of colors, i.e. cool or warm, shade,or tint etc.

I don't know about red seedum, but creeping phlox, periwinkle, and H%26amp;C, are easy.

I take a large stick, or piece of solid metal, and push it into the ground about 4-5 inches(to get below frost line). I usually have a cart with the plants, and carry some plant/bulb food, and small shovel, and water. Put the plant in the hole, add some food, and press dirt back around plant. Add some water, and you're done! Hens and chicks run all over my Mom's bank. When she wants to move some, she does the same thing. A lot of people (like my sister) spend hours playing with the soil and plants. I find mine grow just as well-if not better-by just doing it this way. My neighbor spent a whole day, 2 years ago, preparing soil, soaking plant roots, and digging the 'perfect' hole for her bulbs. I went out with my 4-yr old granddaughter, threw our tulip and crocus bulbs on the yard. Then we took the stick, poked a hole where the bulbs fell, and dropped them in. She stepped on the dirt to push it down, and we planted 100 bulbs in about 1 1/2 hrs!

All of them have come up, but next door, only a few made it!

We just say that "Wild flowers grow where God dropped them, and so do ours!" Good luck with yours. Let me know how you make out. Connie

Reply:You should keep your makeup as natural as possible. DO NOT match your eye shadow to your dress. Either use a a natural beige or taupe with some sparkle or go for the smoky eye look. If you are doing a dramitic eye, go very natural on the lip. a sheer pink gloss would look nice. Do not over-do the blush, keep it light and natural.

You may want to try to go to a couple of department store makeup counters for tips, which could be hit or miss, or just try a few websites and practice on your own until you find a look you are comfortable with.

Reply:Please do not make the mistake of matching your eyeshadow to your dress. The best thing is probably emphasize your eyes and make them kinda smokey. Dont' wear black eyeliner though cuz most likely there will be some crying involved. I think a dark gray or dark metallic brown would look good. Try MAC products...they have a great range of color
Reply:What time is the wedding? If it is 5 or earlier, be very natural and subtle. 6 or later can be a little more dramatic.

The most important thing is to not upstage the bride, and your make-up should be similar to the other bridesmaids.

I have tried to plant them for years, but everytime they brown and wither then completely die. I have changed the soil completely and they die one at a time so I don't think it's the amount of light they are getting or they would all look bad.

Mine live in a shady spot under the trees in my yard, and have just kept spreading. I'm not sure what kind of nutrition is in that soil, but it's much more damp.
Reply:They respond well to sun but need lots and lots of water either morning or night. I have planted them for years and have great succss. They even tolerate heat.
Reply:They do need a lot of water. I have many vinca in containers and must water them at least every other day. They also require a lot of sun. They can stand partial shade (that is, shade in the morning or afternoon), but don't do well in a very shady area.

Mine are pretty hardy, but they are easy to lose if they don't get enough water.

When should i clear my garden?

I have inherited an overgrown garden with my new house - what is the best time to gut it (pretty much) and put in new stuff- i also want to put in a patio area and a play area for my son. It's covered in bindweed, periwinkle, weeds and more weeds.

I would wait until late spring - say late march. if there are spring bulbs they will show up by then, and everything else will still be dormant from winter. Try to leave some of the structural details (eg trees) as they add character to a garden.
Reply:first plan your back yard... anywhere you are going to have for flowers go through and decided if there is anything you want to keep.. if not.. well i would start now.. clear the weeds and find some perennials (not annuals) and plant them now.. they will have fall and winter to establish their roots, (plants may not grow in the winter, but many plants take the chance to put the energy into their roots to make them stronger. planting in the fall is a gardeners secret.
Reply:you can start now, dont rush, start digging small areas taking up as much weed root as u can, cover with weed control fabric (from any garden centre) hold in place with bricks to stop it blowing away. The weeds will be suppressed as they need light to grow. this will give you time to plan your garden without worrying about the weeds taking over even more.

This fall is the best time to kill out the areas of growth you want to get rid of and to reseed your yard.

I am looking for the manufacturer of a french chic antique cabbage rose or also known as english rose garden quilt. I have found this quilt on Ebay and Overstock .com. On Overstock .com catalog #10087542. I also have a model #GL-WB0726.

This is a beautiful quilt with an antique tea background. With a romantic French blend of colors including melon rose and pink roses, butter yellow, sage green, rose and a touch or French periwinkle blue. It has several prints consisting of roses, wildflowers, vintage roses, and cabbage roses along with a ticking stripe and garlands of flowers.

I want to find the manufacturer to inquire about purchasing fabric to make window treatments. According to the two vendors I have found to have this item there are none available.

I'm sorry, I couldn't find the manufacturer for you. An alternative is to take samples of the fabric (say, the shams) with you to a quilt shop and try to find something similar, or at least complementary. That style is very similar to some popular fabrics currently available. Check out Hancocks of Paducah, an excellent online quilting and home decorating fabric store. Search or browse through the florals. One designer in particular to check out is Three Sisters by Moda fabrics. They have several lines that have a similar feel. Check out Faded Memories, the Three Sisters Favorite (especially Paris Flea Market), and Seaside Rose. These are just the ones available through Hancocks - also check out eBay for Moda Three Sisters, Gingham Rose, or ask your local quilt shop if they have any of these lines (or similar fabrics).

A bedroom that I fell in love with had two colors on each half of these two sisters side of the bed(they had a bunk bed) they had one side that was like a pastel lime green,and the other was a light lavender! I really liked their idea..plus they had a ribbon from one end of the wall to another..and little clothes pins holding photos, with their friends and family hanging on them..as well as say a ribbon for something that they had won and also some jewelry and or a party invitation as well ! I was a nanny at that time, taking care of their little brother..and, he and I used to go by the room...he loved his big sisters sooo much and missed them when they weren't at home, so around the bend from his room we would walk to his sisters..and hang for a smidge!

I liked their room alot! It was filled with colorful items..and books and such..it was a great room!

You may like change but someday it will be nice to work with your decoarating overtime and create a place you can apprectiate. I love finding things to match my room at random stores. It makes my room special and unique. Lime green will get old fast. Find a picture or decoration with colors that you love and work around it. Trust me in the end it will pay off!!!

Yes, there is a flowering plant we Know Nothing Gardeners* called periwinkle. It has tiny purple, white or pink flowers and it doesn't die out in moderate climates during the winter. It spreads quite well, is up to about 6" tall.

* A Know Nothing Gardener thinks all roses are "roses" and wouldn't know a prize rose from a scrub brush and call everything either a tree or a flower or a rock. We don't know the "real" names of things and leave it to the pets to fertilize. So don't take my word on the periwinkle question. It's just my Know Nothing answer. :-)

Baby/parents room decorating??

My dad had an awful heart surgery last year, and since is not quite himself. My parents offered the idea of us moving in with them tohelp out, and my boyfriend could do household chores my dad can no longer do (like yard work, and fixing things), in return, they'll help us with the baby, which is our first, so we'll need it (she comes in July). There couldn't be a sweeter deal!!

Anyway, since all of my parents kids have moved out of their house, my parents gave us a bedroom with a "connected living room" (used to be just one big room) for us to work with.

It has periwinkle walls, and beige carpet.

Obviously, since it's my families home, our baby will have the whole house to run wild in. HOWEVER, since the baby will be sharing a room with us, I was still wondering how I can decorate this room to be calming and adult, but at the same time happy and childish.

Any ideas for either style would be so helpful :)!!

First congrats for your forthcoming kid. Take care of your self. I have few ideas for your and your baby's room decoration. Kids like colors like red, yellow and orange and other dark colors. You can buy cartoons wall hangings that you can paste on walls, radium stars and other shapes that will shine in the darkness. balloons and other decorations, and beautiful cot obviously that you will take, it should has a hanging with some sweet musics. Soft toys with music when your baby will wake up then starts to play with that. Buy toys with music that will be attractive for kids because in very small age they can listen only they can not grip it. Later you can buy so may toys for your kid.

Parents have a great deal with first kid because every thing will be new and you will be in learning process of how to look after properly to a newborn. You are lucky that you are sharing home with your mom and dad. They will guide you well for your new born. I wish that your dad get well soon and good Luck for Future.
Reply:Keep the walls light in color %26amp; use one corner of the room for your baby. Make this corner the furthest from the bedroom door %26amp; the traffic pattern. I'm assuming that you'll be purchasing a bassinette, crib, changing table right off the bat. Arrange the other furniture around the baby furniture. Purchase some cute little pictures to hang above her crib %26amp; over the dresser or changing table, but don't overdo it. Make sure the window(s) have drapes %26amp; mini blinds, so you can darken the room during the day, when she's napping. I'm sure you'll use the bassinette a lot until she grows out of it. Most are on wheels, so moving it to a different room during the day, if need be, will be easy for you. Select a cute matching baby style bedding ensemble for the bassy %26amp; the crib, etc. to give the room a cute %26amp; cozy nursery look. As for the rest of your furniture, keep it uncluttered but keep it colorful but not brash. Earth tones would look great for your bedding, etc. %26amp; won't clash with the baby's corner.

Reply:use a light green shade for the walls. This way it looks clean, fresh, moden and it isn't to babyish. But it will also be an excellent nursery colour for any gender. In your section you can have an adult type setting and place alot of toys around the babys. You can also get baby bedding in greens to match. What about curtains to give the areas a more seperate feel? Hope this helps!

How To Revive My Dying Seedlings?

I grow the seedlings in my bathroom with heat turn on. Sun Gold is turning yellow (two already dead leaving one alive) and Periwinkle leaves shrunk after I put it out in the open air(unprotected for several hours) for sunshine (but the air was cool) because its leaves are turning yellow. Mustard green were grown a week ago and now the seedlings are about two inches tall. When can I transplant /put the mustard green outside? This is my first time DIY planting veggie and flowers. I read some information online and tried on it but it didnt work. As a result, many of my seedlings died. The current batch is the second batch. Please help.

If you need to "harden them off" then you can only put them in dappled shade for an hour at a time. You cannot leave them in full sun all day, or full wind - it will kill their tender leaves.

You did not say where you were?

They need warmth to sprout, but then they need to be moved to full sun in order to grow.

Make sure you don't over water as well.

Edit* Do not fertilize seedlings at all until they are already established in your garden. It is not necessary.

For plants to be established, I wouldn't fertilize for at least a month and a half after being in the soil.

What zone are you in there? I am in Colorado, we are in zone 3, I won't even begin to plant for another four weeks. Then that will only be cold weather stuff. Potatoes.

What fabric colors are good for a dark blonde? (fashion)?

Cream/peachy skin, green eyes, very dark blonde hair but it has an obvious ash cast. I can't seem to find a good color on me for things like sweaters, blouses etc. These I know look awful: winter white, mauve, true blue, true pink .... These tend to look okay: spring green, black, periwinkle but I can never seem to find just the right shade or floral print. :-/ Any ideas? This is not me but it is my coloration. What do you think? My hairstylist wants me to lighten my hair to a zingy blonde but I'd much rather find fabrics to highlight what I've got. Orange? Eggplant? I'm lost. Anything too light (wash out), too dark/dramatic (kills my paleness).

I would definitely go with the afternoon delight. It picks up on the green really well in the blanket. and then the blanket adds a pop of pink color. DEFINITELY the afternoon delight

The sky is blue, trees are green, this is what we know

and lots of fruits and veggies are needed for us to grow

i thought as i colored the kitty's fur an ugly gray

"why not bring variety into the dullness of the day?"

there are so many colors in my Crayola Crayon box

why be so restricted to the shades of dirt and rocks?

i finished one gray kitty, and started another anew

by picking out a crayon named Outer Space Blue

and soon that cat had fuchsia stripes and periwinkle spots

and a hat with sea foam daisies and scarlet polka dots

i looked down at my masterpiece, my beloved work of art

it defied the laws of coloring, followed the rules of my heart

i wasn't just a simple color-by-numbers fool

'cause today i took a stand and colored outside of the rules

I saw gerber daisies online that were a mixture of bright blues both dark blue and bright baby blue, oranges, yellows, greens, purples, do they dye these flowers these colors? Of course i'm going to be in white my husband to be will be in black and white and my maid of honor will be in either lilac or periwinkle, i'm having a hard time deciding on daisies or roses with daisies mixed in or white and red roses. HELP!!! Any suggestions??? Pics would be helpful. I'm almost sold on white and red roses!

It depends on where you are located %26amp; when your wedding is but most of the time gerber daisies are more expensive than roses. So it depends on what your budget is but all rose would probably be cheaper %26amp; alot prettier. I mean don't get me worng I love the gerber daisies %26amp; was going to have them for my wedding but the roses are so classy %26amp; elegant looking. They symbolise love %26amp; they are a very romantic flower so this would be a wise choice for your wedding. Anyways I hope this helps! Good Luck :)
Reply:What kind of wedding are you having? To me, roses are a more formal flower and gerbra dasies are more casual. Both are equally beautiful.

They come in a ton of colors but if you want one the florist doesn't have all you do is put some food dye in a spritzer bottle (test on white paper first to get the hang of it and make sure color is right) then spray the white gerbras. Putting them in dyed water often results in an uneven finish if you aren't too experienced with the timing.
Reply:For my sisters wedding we did three gerber daisies tied simply together and they looked fantastic! Gerbers come in a variety of colors and they can be dyed also. I would choose the gerbers over roses anyday!

Looking for Ideas! Here are my colors:

White, Silver, Light Blue, Medium Blue or even like a Periwinkle.

Sorta like a winter white and blue colors but NOTHING baby blue or pastels (i hate pastels) I guess the best way I can explain it is by a holiday theme..of snowflakes, snow, snowman blue.....okay so its not a winter wedding but I love the colors with silver..mildly elegant. Looking for any images or ideas you would like to add to my possibilities list.

I am up for any pictures for cakes, table setings, plates, center pieces, gifts, bridesmaid dresses, have three girls so dresses as well so long as they don't match identical.

**I'm not sure if you're Photoshop savvy, but I'm a graphic designer so one thing I did was design a candy bar wrapper with a photo of the bride and groom to be that had their last name and wedding date on it. We went to Kinko's and had them printed and cut for under $30 and bought king size Hershey bars in wholesale boxes at Sams Club. We assembled them ourselves with some cool glue I found at Office Depot. It came in a big clear tube (I think it's Scotch brand) and had a felt tip end so you could brush it onto the wrapper without leaving all the gunk and globs that regular glue sticks leave. We're going to put one at each place setting at the reception. It was a cute and cheap favor for the guests. We didn't really see the point in spending $5 on favors for each person when they're going to throw it away anyways. I think most people would much rather have a chocolate bar then something like a paperweight with the bride and grooms name on it, don't you? We also have 450 guests so we are trying to work on a budget!**

Another cute idea that we are still considering is buying some plain black 5 x 7 wooden picture frames and print out some little papers that we would put inside each one that would have the bride and groom's first and last name repeated over and over again in different fonts and sizes and putting them on the tables at the reception. This was an idea we found in a photo on www.theknot.com as well.

Reply:Late summer, blue and silver? Have you thought about an ocean or seaside theme? Think the old summer beach resorts of the 1900s - 1950s. Some of them were quite ritzy - fancy hotel with sand. Women in beautiful dresses (especially the 1920s), men in boaters and jackets. Depending on your budget, the cake could go anywhere from cupcakes with summer flowers on cupcake stands (like bouquets) to a giant life preserver or a model of a gazebo.

What do my Windsor Newton gouache colors correspond to on the color wheel?
Some of those colors may not BE on your color wheel. Many are blends various other colors and tints of the primary and blended colors.

Think about what you'd get if you mixed orange with a small bit of blue. These are opposite on your color wheel. You'd get a kind of brown, which is a color that wouldn't show up on your wheel. Or mix blue, with a small bit of orange and add a tint of white. This would be a kind of "slate" color, which is, also, not on your wheel.

You mentioned "light purple" That could be, simply, the pure, secondary color of blue and red, with white added to make a lighter tint.

Sometimes, color names are very arbitrary. What is the difference between purple, violet and lavender? Why is marigold yellow called that? Periwinkle?

Look at the names on the colors on a BIG box of Crayola crayons. Do they all fit on your color wheel?

Mara Quirly.

I know it sounds kinda odd but I love it. And the girl is kinda odd, it's kinda hard to understand, here's the beginning

It’s hard to say exactly what it was about Mara Quirly that made her parents so uneasy. It was probably a lot of things, all jumbled in to one confused mess. It was partly the way her huge periwinkle eyes seemed to see inside of you when she looked at you, and partly the way that when she got lost in thought, which happened quite often, the expression on her face had a way of telling you that she wasn’t just foolishly daydreaming. And of course there was the way that when she had been a baby, she hadn’t sat and cried and wailed like the other babies in the nursery, but had just lain there, her huge eyes wide open, and stared. Not moving, just looking at something as ordinary as a wall or a cheap watercolor painting as if it was the most interesting thing in the world.

Just curious, a friend of mine got a parakeet last month. He's your typically yellow %26amp; green budgie. She got him a mate but it died when she hit a wall trying to fly back to their cage. The female was white with blue spots, they looked sort of looked like tick/freckle markings.

But anyway his owner plans to get him a new mate since he's lonely I told her about some parakeets I saw at the petco, some of 2 of them were pure white, one was yellow with a green spot on the side and the others were the standard blue %26amp; white and yellow %26amp; green. There was one that was periwinkle blue with white on the head, neck %26amp; face.

Anway if this bird gets a new mate and they breed at some point would the chicks have the same colors as their parents or would they be different?

Another friend of mine used to have pigeons and the chicks sometimes had the same markings as their parents or were a mix of the two.

Parakeet colors?
It all depends on what the parents parents where so to speak.1. you may get the same colour or some revert back to the normal green. Or you might get colours you dont expect.

The only way you can plan colours is line bred them so you know the history of the parents grandparents and so on, to plan the colours you want

Reply:It would depend on the exact genetics of the parents. Buying from a pet store you never know what you'll get. In general though if one bird from a pet store is the regular green, all resulting chicks will be green as well since it's the dominant color in parakeet genetics. Most pet store parakeets aren't split to other colors or bred for anything fancy, so the green will be the visual dominant color.

The chicks will be green, but split to whatever color the other parent is. Meaning that if one of the chicks is then bred to another bird that's the same color as the other parent (non-green), it can produce chicks other than greens.

I know this may sound ridiculous but I bought 12 tubes of gouache and I was wondering what each one was on the color wheel. I figured out some but I'm unsure of others.

Here is what I have figured out:

Primary Yellow - (Yellow)

Primary Blue - (Blue)

Primary Red - (Red)

Turquoise Blue (Blue Green)

Here is what I'm unsure of:

Golden Yellow

Marigold Yellow

Orange Lake Deep

Magenta

Light Purple

Periwinkle Blue

Brilliant Green

Permanent Green Light

What do my Windsor Newton gouache colors correspond to on the color wheel?
It doesn't sound ridiculous at all! Different paints from different manufacturers, with different names that are changed from time to time... it can be very confusing.

The other thing that can be misleading is that commercially printed colour wheels, such as you might find in books, change in appearance over time as the ink fades.

The best way to keep your paint performance predictable is to make a sample wheel yourself. It doesn't have to be all beautiful pie shapes (unless you want it that way); the main thing is to get the three primaries arranged 120 degrees apart around the wheel, then mix the secondaries (green, orange, violet) and put them in between, and then the tertiaries (blue violet, red orange, yellow green etc.) in between those.

Then you will be able to take, for example, magenta, and determine that it falls somewhere between red and violet.

Do this by painting a small sample and holding it next to your wheel.

Paint manufacturers sometimes provide charts of their colours, but these can vary, if printed, because ink is not the same as gouache. I always like to make a quick reference chart for any new medium. Then it's always WYSIWYG and much less troublesome.

Also, some colours have white added which can be confusing. I don't know W%26amp;N periwinkle blue but I suspect it might be one of those.

The wind whistled slowly but surely in the frosty night. Like an easygoing, silent cry. Spherical stones scattered across the pavement as if they were running from the leaves that fluttered to the asphalt and danced across the street. I glanced down and looked into the creek, about five minutes away from my house. I gazed at the creek as the ripples extended throughout the water. Seeing this made special warmth come to my heart but inside I was worried, very worried. I kept trying to convince myself that nothing was wrong and that little feeling inside of worry was just my mind's eye like I usually inform myself after I watch a bloodcurdling film. But this time, it was different I knew it. I had a certain tugging feeling, which made me terrified.

All the sudden while I was admiring the goldenrod, radiant moon and stars, the sound I had been anticipating rang in my freezing ear drums. A scream, a gory scream was coming from within that house, my house. That shriek I could not forget all the time I was frantically running towards the serene and tranquil looking house. I was astonished my weary, tingling legs didn’t give in until I got to my destination. Then a tear trickled down my cheek as slow as a glacier, previous to even realizing what had happened. My heart was throbbing, my hands were trembling, and I could not stop crying. What I saw was a living nightmare.

I touched the sizzling hot front entrance handle, gradually twisted the knob… C-l-c-k the door made a surprising noise when I turned it to the right. I held the door handle for a second and thought about opening that door. Taking my hand away from the knob I started shaking frantically and crying nonstop. But without even making up my mind my trembling, pale hand reached out for the partially polished, rusted door handle once more turned the handle and popped the door open. Liquid seeped into my periwinkle sweater as I tried to stop the tears from running like a faucet down my cheek. A blazing flame heated my entire body in not even a half a second. The warmth brought back memories of sitting on prickly, warmed log in front of the campfire and backing away for the reason that your face became to warm.

OKay, i need your honest opinion! do u like my almost story?
i think its really really good(even if it isnt for something) if this is like a story composition or something i pretty sure ur the only 1 whos going 2 get an A+
Reply:lots of description, but it needs a bit of tidying up, grammar is a bit untidy in places, and jars against the descriptive nature of the earlier section. like this bit:

"A blazing flame heated my entire body in not even a half a second. "

one sentence you are writing like a writer, the next you are talking like a teenager. Where does the heat come from?

I think it's a good start but it just needs a bit of tidying up...

words like "crying nonstop", "got", "tranquil looking", "shaking frantically" need to be rethought, substitute in some better words.

The piece might work well as a monologue but if you are going to write it, try and lose some of the street talk.

Reply:Look. It could be that a child will be special if given a special name or having an unusual name could encourage a kid to make something of that name. We have Peekaboo Street, the skier. We have Beyonce Knowles, the singer.

Seriously, name cycle and some the names will almost always be in the top100, so parents who don't want their child to be one of ten Jennifers or Michaels in the first grade often resort to extremes. However sometimes they just may like the sound. Periwinkle, stealing your example, has a concrete meaning(color, flower) and shortens to Peri quite nicely, and really no more strange than Lavender, Rose or Amber.

Reply:Every grade school class room has 3-5 kids with the same name and American couples name their kids unusual names to avoid their kids being one of the crowd. Periwinkle will get shortened to Peri whether the parents like it or not. People need to be careful about what nick names can be gleaned out of a name. Some nick names aren't as great as Peri would be.
Reply:My mother tried to give my brother and me unusual names. It worked with me, but my brother's name became ridiculously popular a few years after his birth. I think she just wanted us to be different, but I kind of wish she hadn't. As it is, I have to say my name about six times before people get it right. I ended up choosing a nickname that's easy to spell AND pronounce.
Reply:Hell no! I wouldn't even name my pet something like that. I would expect a child to name their stuffed animal something like that. It's not unusual, its a color. You probably see it everyday. But its your kid. I am a teacher and I have heard all kinds of names. These "unusual" names generally loose their effect after about a week of knowing the child, but people continue to wonder if you are doing a disservice to the child and their future. We are all judged by our names at first glance or even prior. What do you think most people with think of when they are introduced to Periwinkle...an intelligent, well rounded, active person is not what first comes to my mind.

Base of a lilac color for my wedding but what would best my best accent colors??! Help!?

I am having an outdoor wedding this August with the base color of light purple (varying shades between periwinkle and lavender), but I am stuck! What would be my best bet for my accent colors? Now I already have a lot of white things (garland etc, plus my guest book and pillows) but, what would be a stand out color to go with lilac that I could incooperate in everything?!

I need to have something that stands out but nothing too gawdy.

Also best answer will go to whoever can help me figure out how to implement that color(s) on my tables, flowers, etc and be able to know where to put all the colors together at!

BEAUTIFUL color choice! I would say SILVER. It is something that could be incorperated into everything and gives a very modern feel compared to old which has more of a vintage feel to it. here are some Ideas:

Flowers:

Siver Ribbon wrapped around the boquet along with silver baby leaves (fake)

Centerpiece:

It depends on what is is but a cool Idea would be to buy some small decorative candle mirrors (biglots would have them cheep) and place fresh purple flowers in vintage or modern sinver vases. or use the same mirrors and place glass bowls with lilac colored water (food dye) and multipurple glass pebbeles in the bottom (that is what I used for my wedding except pink and silver were my colors.)

Purple and silver tulle bows:

Take the two color and make big bows to line your walk way secure with (fake) pearl pushpins (the big ones) and tape if you need it. Fluff tulle after hanging.

Dinnerware:Purple Napkins and silver silverware (lol!)

tables: if you are doing round tables then place longer silver round table cloths on the bottom and top with a smaller purple tablecloth.

To hold favors and such: buy some wood baskets and spray paint them silver. then buy some purple fabric and line them.

Reply:Think contrast but similar not too far apart on the color wheel. Since your wedding is in August tap into fall colors. Maybe a burgundy red or cranberry. They sell black cherry colored calla lillies that you could mix in with your other flowers. You could also do ribbons on your favors, petals on your tables....once you pick your color you can do anything.

I think I would stay away from pastel or "light" color shades because they will blend too much with the lilac and periwinkle. That and with all the white you're using, consider something darker to really make the accents pop.

Personally this is what i have...

My bridesmaids are wearing lilac, my flowergirl is in pink and the mothers have chosen to wear green.

My flowers/bouquets are light and dark pink roses with lilac orchids to tie the colours together, green in the leaves.

The boys are in black and white with the colours brought in with their buttonholes. (Black and white for all their clothing including ties only colour in flowers)

My tables are being set with white table cloths with white roses and greeenery as table centres with pink and lilac coloured petals scattered. There will also be candles lighting the individual place settings for guests.

Your accent colours would become smaller items of your wedding. Ties, buttonholes, focus table settings etc with lilac being some part of everything (lilac tape/binding on a pink bouquet so the flowers stand out from the outfits etc)
Reply:I'm having an August wedding and I am using plum/eggplant purple as a secondary color to lilac and white. I love the way the lilac and the dark purple tones meld together. They have a lot of things in this color of dark purple and there is a bold contrast between the light and dark. I'm having plum tableclothes w/ lilac runners and plum candles w/ floral arrangments of mainly lilac colors w/ some plum. The cake will have both colors. Most of the tulle will be lilac w/ some plum. I'm tying lilac bows around the back of the chairs. I was thinking about, but decided against, using maroon and gold. I still love the colors together, but decided using lilac and plum would be easier. Do a search on Butterfly Wishes in Precious Jewels; it has the lilac, maroon, and gold. :) Good luck.

Reply:Well... With Lilac a very pretty and pop of color is salmon/coral it will add that bit of late summer/fall (august) color pallet... As far as the decore the biggest thing is to have fun keep it simple but elegant. honestly stay with white table clothes and tie a lilac sash around chairs now for centerpieces a nice tall clear vase w/ the i believe its something like grass you can swirl in the vase and do a simple but colorful (oranges limes lilacs yellows) arrangement on the top w/ a possible whimsical touch by adding several flowers to add height... or if you are just doing it outside open air you could def. do several vases on the table of different heights and add candles to some and in other simple fill with water and add a nice large bloom of hydrengea or an orchid to float it is very simple and beautiful!!! hope this helps!!! oh but if you do have it outside in a tent or even a room I would add some crystals some how to add a little bling or sparkle!!!

I do love the old English Cottage.

Mary stood at the front gate, which opened onto a crazy paved pathway leading to the front door of the little thatched cottage. She let her eyes follow the path and noticed the Periwinkle and Catnip growing in between the cracks of the paving. Both gave off a heady scent when trodden on, but Mary felt that the little plants never deserved such rough treatment just so that someone could smell their perfume. Even as a child she never ever trod on them but hop scotched her way to the front door.

She let her eyes wonder over the cottage garden. "Spring seems to bring out the best in the flowers," she said to herself. "Even better that the summer months". Pansies, Holly Hock, Sweet Scented Stock and the blue of Cornflower plants were all out in profusion, giving the garden and cottage a picture book look. "It really is a pretty cottage" she thought "I shall miss it when I leave but John has to be in Africa ready to start his new job next month".

John and Mary had lived in the cottage for six years after he came out of the army with a good pension, which had enabled them to buy the cottage. He had taken up his old job as an architect with a local firm in the town of Tadcaster. Previously they had been posted wherever the army had sent them. John had been a Major in the R.A.S.C over seeing the construction of new military buildings and bridges. Mary had been content with her life but was pleased when he retired and they had bought the cottage. John was the sort of man that got on with all he met and was soon accepted by the local villagers. It was different with Mary, she had always been a quiet person, much preferring to go out into the countryside and paint whatever scene took her fancy, but butterflies seemed to favour her desire to paint, and the cottage walls were festooned with her paintings of the delicate creatures.

Mary walked up the pathway, unlocked the Dutch door, which some previous owner of the cottage had decided to put in, and walked into the familiar living room with its domesticity enfolding her. On impulse she went upstairs where she had her room in which she finished her paintings. She took a small easel and a case of sketching pencils and canvas from the table near the large north-facing window, made her way downstairs and out into the garden, along the path and out into the field that lay on the other side of the lane. Setting up her easel she looked at the cottage "How many times have I painted you" She said with affection. "One last time, just once more". She took out her sketching pencil and began to draw the fine lines on the canvas.

It took Mary a week to finish the painting. John had concluded all of his work he was contracted to do, now he and Mary could spend some time together before they made the move to Africa. The cottage had been sold to a nice elderly couple who "Needed some fresh air in their lungs" the new owners has said. They were happy to let Mary and John stay on until it was time for them to leave. "How are you coming along with your painting?" as john one morning at breakfast. "It's finished," said Mary. "May I see it?" asked her husband. Mary took the painting from behind the chair where she had put it to show John later. He looked at it "Its beautiful, your best ever of the cottage, but you have left the For Sale Vacant Possession sign in the painting" "Not quite " she said "Look closer" he did and saw that the sign now read Butterfly Cottage. He smiled "Perfect" he said.

I will be having approximately 35-40 people at my wedding, and their all pigs, how much candy should i buy to be on the safe side? I'm thinking along the lines of like 10 different jars with different candy in each, does this sound like enough? And i don't have a specific theme and my colors are periwinkle and white, any suggestions on different candies? They don't necessarily have to match my colors, i just need some suggestions on popular candy.

Wedding buffet?
As opposed to other edible items, it is important to consider that candy is both edible and decorative and the more that you have, the more impressive your display. However, there is no exact ideal quantity as each Candy Buffet is different.

Our standard suggestion is to purchase no less than ten (10) pounds per item and you may want to order more of smaller items, such as Jelly Beans, as they tend to settle in large containers.

When deciding on how much to purchase, here are a few things to consider:

1) Is the Candy Buffet going to be available for the entire function or is it strictly going to be offered as an appetizer or dessert option?

2) Are the candies intended to be consumed on site or is it designed for people to take home as a party favor?

Nothing is worse than a Candy Buffet that runs out early, especially if it is being offered at the end of an event, as people tend to only remember the “beginning” and “end” of most social functions.

Reply:Well I can't really help you on candy suggestions, although we are having 24 different types of candy...smarties, twizzlers, york patties, hershey's bars, starbursts, skittles, reeses pieces, salt water taffy are a few... I have the list somewhere about them all. Anywho, the general rule of thumb is 15-20 pounds for each candy.
Reply:Candy has no place at a wedding, it's tacky and inappropriate. You can have Viennese tables with dessert pastries, the tables are wheeled out; and then the guests take what they wish. You can make the theme of your wedding aviation and air travel, periwinkle comblined with white remind me a bit of the sky. Stay off the sugar, sweetness, I fear that a bit of it may have gone to your brain.

As far as buffets go, I don't adore them, I personally think the only buffets at weddings should be for the cocktail hour preceding the wedding reception. How lovely and very gracious of you to predesignate your invited guests as "all pigs". You certainly will be giving Martha Stewart a run for her money with that attitude. Next time be a bit less mean-spirited and icksnay the name calling altogether, it is unladylike to begin with and a turnoff as well.

Why do I see them? I'm scared!?

I see these almost transparent outlines of people, extending about half a foot. They don't bother me much, because they are around the person, but either there's something weird with my vision, or it's an aura. My guy friend has a purple/violet, my history teacher a bright yellow topped off with a brown. Then, my language teacher a periwinkle blue...

When it's dark I see mine, it's a yellowish-green that turns into a turquoise and is topped off with a muddy green...

As I said, they don't bother me, but I just want to know what they're there for...

When I stare at someone for a long time, concentrating on one part of their body, say one of their eyes, then I see it, about half a foot...also if I see it for too long, my eyes get red and they water.

It looks like I'm staring at the person and crying!

Somedays, I don't even have to concentrate, though, because they just appear on their own, a misty thick outline floating there! Is it okay to see this, or no? Should I keep it? Thanks!

God would not give you anything to fear, sounds like you have found one purpose in your life, meditate on this and see where else it will take you. Dangles from the balcony

Is this a good beggining to a story?!

The wind whistled slowly but surely in the frosty night. Like an easygoing, silent cry. Spherical stones scattered across the pavement as if they were running from the leaves that fluttered to the asphalt and danced across the street. I glanced down and looked into the creek, about five minutes away from my house. I gazed at the creek as the ripples extended throughout the water. Seeing this made special warmth come to my heart but inside I was worried, very worried. I kept trying to convince myself that nothing was wrong and that little feeling inside of worry was just my mind's eye like I usually inform myself after I watch a bloodcurdling film. But this time, it was different I knew it. I had a certain tugging feeling, which made me terrified.

All the sudden while I was admiring the goldenrod, radiant moon and stars, the sound I had been anticipating rang in my freezing ear drums. A scream, a gory scream was coming from within that house, my house. That shriek I could not forget all the time I was frantically running towards the serene and tranquil looking house. I was astonished my weary, tingling legs didn’t give in until I got to my destination. Then a tear trickled down my cheek as slow as a glacier, previous to even realizing what had happened. My heart was throbbing, my hands were trembling, and I could not stop crying. What I saw was a living nightmare.

I touched the sizzling hot front entrance handle, gradually twisted the knob… C-l-c-k the door made a surprising noise when I turned it to the right. I held the door handle for a second and thought about opening that door. Taking my hand away from the knob I started shaking frantically and crying nonstop. But without even making up my mind my trembling, pale hand reached out for the partially polished, rusted door handle once more turned the handle and popped the door open. Liquid seeped into my periwinkle sweater as I tried to stop the tears from running like a faucet down my cheek. A blazing flame heated my entire body in not even a half a second. The warmth brought back memories of sitting on prickly, warmed log in front of the campfire and backing away for the reason that your face became to warm.

lots of description, but it needs a bit of tidying up, grammar is a bit untidy in places, and jars against the descriptive nature of the earlier section. like this bit:

"A blazing flame heated my entire body in not even a half a second. "

one sentence you are writing like a writer, the next you are talking like a teenager. Where does the heat come from?

"The warmth brought back memories of sitting on prickly, warmed log in front of the campfire and backing away for the reason that your face became to warm" - messy.

I think it's a good start but it just needs a bit of tidying up...

words like "crying nonstop", "got", "tranquil looking", "shaking frantically" need to be rethought, substitute in some better words.

The piece might work well as a monologue but if you are going to write it, try and lose some of the street talk.

keep trying and ask your English teacher for some more pointers.

To much description. Your throwing everything plus the kitchen sink at your story. Pare it down %26amp; try using descriptive words of a verby leaning, (implies one of the five senses, or kites or some action imagery), but lighten up on the description allow the readers imagination to enter into the story, also if I recall correctly, do not use words ending w/ly or "of" in writing unless there is no other option. And adverbs, little less adverbs would be nice.

You have a nice start for a story here %26amp; keep writing, it is interesting.

im a libra and im very indesicive.. i just cant choose a color for the life of me.. i narrowed it down.. but i cant figure out which i want. i love them all but im not sure ill love waking up to every morning. i need to feel balanced. i have included a picture of my blanket because I want it to go together.. not necessarily match... but go with it... i think they all do, i just dont know which one ill be happy with. and i included the website im using to find the colors and the color codes to search for them. Transplanted Daylillies?

I recently (about 2 weeks or so ago) transplanted a bunch of plants, including; chrysanthemum, black-eyed susan, periwinkle, phlox, asiatic lillies and daylillies. they're all doing quite well except the daylillies, which look tired and are yellowing. I had separated some of the tubers before sticking them in the dirt, and there wasn't any native soil sticking to them when they were given to me. It was the same case with the Asiatics, but they are doing great. Will my daylillies bloom and come back, or continue looking dead but come back next year, or are they a lost cause?

I think at least some will probably survive and come back better next year. Daylillies are pretty resiliant. Keep them moist. (Asiatics and daylilies are really not closely related)
Reply:When transplanting daylillies cut the foliage back to about 3 to 4 inches from the tuber and apply some powdered sulphate of potash and a handful of blood and bone , they should come back with out much problems just be patient daylillies need to grow new foliage after being transplanted , but their worth it.
Reply:Have faith. Daylillies are tough as nails. I have them planted above the culvert in my driveway, the have been hanging in and blooming for 12 years now in about an inch of red clay.

Reply:it's ok, but nothing amazing. I don't really like the adjectives you use, it's as if you are trying too hard to paint a vivid image, but it just makes for clumsy writing. Avoid ambiguity, vary sentence length, and try to develop a distinct flow as each sentence leads into the next. Read what you write out loud, because if it feels natural when you say it, it will feel natural when you read it.

A scream, a gory scream was coming from within that house, my house. That shriek I could not forget all the time I was recklessly running towards what seemed to be a tranquil and serene house. I was astonished my weary, tingling legs didn’t give in until I got to my destination. Then a tear trickled down my cheek as slow as a glacier, previous to even realizing what had happened. My heart was throbbing, my hands were trembling, and I could not stop crying. What I saw was a living nightmare.

I tapped the sizzling hot front entrance handle, gradually twisted the knob…C-L-I-C-K! The door made a surprising noise when I turned it to the right. I held the door handle for a moment and pondered about opening that door. Taking my hand away from the knob I started quivering and weeping uncontrollably. But without even making up my mind my trembling, pale hand reached out for the partially polished, rusted door handle once more turned the handle and popped the door open. Liquid seeped into my periwinkle sweater as I tried to stop the tears from running like a faucet down my cheek. A blazing flame heated my entire body in not even a half a second. The warmth brought back cheerful memories. Ones of sitting on a prickly, warmed log in front of a campfire, and backing away for the reason that your face became to warm.

Growing flowers in Georgia?

I resently moved to Southern Georgia from Wisconsin. I want to plant flowers but am clueless as what to plant. I am only going to be living here for three years so i dont want anything expensive, but at the same time i dont want to replant moreflowers every year. What resonable priced perenials will grow in the sandy soil here? We have really tall pine trees here, I ws thinking of planting something around the base of the tree thats will climb the tree. I was wondering if a climbing rose could be planted there or if maybe i'll have better luck with a humming bird vine. Im also wondering what would work best around hedges to dress them up. The only thing i can think of that would grow well there is periwinkle since the soil is poor and rocky. I want to plant something arond the base of the bird feeder also. Something that attracts butterflys and humming birds. I was thinking butterfly bush but that grows too tall and wide. I need ideas on what to plant, and best time to plant. thanks

perennials=aster,balloon flower,black-eyed susan,calla lily,coneflower,dianthus,hosta,iris,and yarrow do well here in athens. vines=virginia creeper,carolina yellow jessamine,cross vine,trumpet creeper. around hedges=variegated liriope and mondo grass with annual color. around bird feeder=dwarf butterfly bush. plant now through spring.
Reply:Sounds like you've already done a lot of research. You may want to consider getting a landscaper designer to come take a look at the space as they'll be able to help you ID plants that will work in the specific locations, with the specific care, you've identified.
Reply:Azalea would do well under your pine tree as would hydrangea.

Virginia creeper to run up the tree. Look around and you'll probably find it growing wild. Don't confuse it with poison ivy.

Virginia creeper should be showing red leaves right now in your area.

Loropetalum would be a nice showy plant and can take some shade.

Daylily would be perfect and if you get them in now you should have bloom come May and June.
Reply:it's hard to grow anything under a pine tree because of the acidic soil there. i live in middle ga and my soil under our pine trees are alway full of dead pine needle that i'm constantly raking and cleaning up try to stay clear of planting anything there. In my gardens, I mix with garden soil and other soils to grow most any kind of flowers and plants.

I am going to paint it one of the two colors below (periwinkle #204.204.255 or light green #230.255.204). I love the color periwinkle, however, it is very hard to find bed coordinates to match it. Right now I have white moulding and trim and white doors. White lace curtains. Beige carpet.

Reply:I think you are safe with Periwinkle if you save the matchy match for pillows. You can do just a white duvet. I have had the same trouble with a red. I tried to match the curtains to the comforter and it's been three years. I don't see why they can't work together. They are both in the same tone. Pastel type colors.Think of a flower, use nature as your inspiration.

Yes it would. But you should layer it over a charcoal gray. Over the eyeshadow, dab a bit of colorless lip balm that you don't really use, it will give your eyes a dewy shimmer.

OK so I have kind of stringy greasy hair and its REALLY thin and My skin is sort of wrinkly although im still YOUNG!! i have tried to get it to stop and to make my hair look better but it wont. so i am gonna do a makeover on myself. I was thinking of going for SORT of the smeagol look not like everything but i really like that character from lord of the rings and his hair sort of looks like mine but ihave more of course. i could get EyeEdge lifts to get the stretched eyes look and wider eyes like him and get some periwinkle pigment injections in my face so i could be sort of a pretty blue color do u think this would look good?

Should I go pale pink and green in my living room?

Ok here is the situation. I have had a shabby chic style house with all white furniture for about 5 years now. When we first did it - we used the pale pink and pale green accents with the white furniture including floral pink pillows etc., well about 2 years ago I switched to periwinkle blue accents with the same furniture. A few of my friends said they liked the blue better. My husband and I both like either the pink or the blue since he's a fan of the shabby chic style as well. Lately, I've wanted to go back to the pale pink and green just because I feel the might be more of a cheery "cottagey" colors. This would involve painting all the flowers I have painted on my furniture pink again and some of my nick-knacks. However, I still love periwinkle blue. I don't want to attempt to mix both periwinkle blue and pink - it would be too much work. What is everyone's opinion? I know it's up to what I like but sometimes some other people's feedback helps.

River bugs?

I guess I should have been more detailed, they make their on shell out of sand and look kind of like a spider/crab but with no claws.

they crawl on the rocks and river bottom. I looked up periwinkle and al I got was info on the flowers.

They could be caddisfly larvae.

Caddisfly larvae will gather up bits of rock, wood, vegetation and/or snail shells and web them together with silk to form a protective structure for themselves, covering their body and which they can retract into. They carry this protective 'shell' around with them, so often only the very front of their body is visible. There are a variety of different shapes that the caddisflies can build their case.
