How many seeds should I plant?

I have the following types of seeds:

Shasta Daisies (Alaska)

Bachelor Buttons (Cyanus Double Mixed Colors)

Periwinkles (Vinca)

Stock (Evening Scented)

Johnny Jump Ups

I have the little Jiffy Pots to start them in should I just put 5 seeds ...more or less than that? Help Im new at this..=(

How many seeds should I plant?
When beginning seeds, there are a few things you want to keep in mind. Jif Pots are fine, but be sure they do not contain fertilizer. If they do, it's possible that the fertilizer will burn the seeds. Instead, find some peat pellets. They are composed entirely of peat, and have no fretilizer. Once the roots penetrate the peat pellet walls, you could put them into the jif pots.

Your question was to how many seeds to plant. Generally speaking, you want 2-4 seeds per pot. However, once the "true leaves" appear (not the two leaves that come up when the seed first sprouts) you need to "thin" (remove) plants to the recommended distance on the package.

In other words, if your seed package says you should plant one seed every three inches, and you have five seeds in that space, you need to take out enough plants to have one plant every three inches. By planting more, you guarantee that at least one will germinate. In the end, though, you still can't let them all sit there. If you do, the plants will compete for space and nutrients, and one or two will eventually overtake and kill the others.
Reply:so many lol
Reply:I would guess that you plan on transplanting into the garden at some point. Half a dozen or so in each would be fine, later on you can pinch off the weaker growing plants. Multiple seeds gives you a better chance at germination in all your pots and most of the plants you mentioned are border plants that like to be a bit crowded.
