I need ideas for do-it-yourself centerpieces?

I am having my wedding on October 20, 2007...i need some ideas on centerpieces for the reception. On a tight budget (we are paying for it ourselves). Our colors are a dark red and periwinkle with ivory. Thanks!

I need ideas for do-it-yourself centerpieces?
--buy some periwinkle and ivory candles a little bigger than votive, place them on heart shaped or square mirrors and put ivory and dark red rose petals around the mirrors. when lit, the light reflects off the mirrors and looks beautiful (most of this can be found at a dollar store or walmart instead of a craft store)

--get clear vases, fill them with periwinkle, ivory or clear beads (the ones for flower arrangements), fake baby's breath, ivory and red roses, periwinkle and ivory ribbon, ribbon of pearls (pearls on a string sold like ribbon). tie the ribbon around the flower and the vase. you put it on the tables like that or get roses petals and lay them around the vases
Reply:I would keep it simple. Too many "cheaper" items can often look tacky.

You can buy a tea light ceramic vase and place a tea light candle on the bottom, and add scented oil or wax beads to the top. This will smell great! Tie a ribbon around the top in your wedding colours.

Or, fill clear vases with candy hearts and stick a single rose (or cheaper flower) inside. I am doing a variation on this, using branches that are spray painted white (December wedding).

Good luck!
Reply:Is it an evening wedding? I helped decorate a wedding reception and we went to a craft store and got simple glass bowls filled them with water clear or colored and put floating candles in them 2or3 looks pretty (depending on the size bowl you use) then sprinkle at the base some glitter or confetti. You could place a few flowers small ones in the bowl also .It's easy an very inexpensive.Looks really romantic. If it's during the day just add more flowers and color the water . In the end you can give the bowls to family and friends as gifts also.
Reply:do yourself
Reply:Purchase some meduim size candle holders/vases, fill them with real or fake cranberries and put some kind of white or red flower in them [roses possibly], or put a little candle on top. Simple and still beautiful.
Reply:Ours was a summer wedding, but we got tall rectangular vases from Ikea ($200) and filled them with water and lemons (in one) and limes (in the other) then situated them with votive candles to make the water sparkle. $300 total.

Check out ideas at marthastewart.com weddings section

she is where I got a ton of DIY ideas.
Reply:My girlfriend got these vases at the dollor store and put some popurii(sorry can't spell) and filled them put a little tea lite on top. and she had some ribbon tied around it. They were very cheap but looked so nice. And then she put a little note under one of the chairs and whoever had the note got to keep the vase. Another thing check out martha's web site. Thats where my friend got her ideas from.
